New livery for Alfa Romeo

ETCC 12/04/02

There will be seven Alfa Romeo 156 Gta cars complying with the new FIA Super 2000 technical regulations in the 2002 FIA European Touring Car Championship. Three of them will be run by the Gta Racing Team Nordauto, winner of last year’s FIA European Super Touring Championship, for reigning champion Fabrizio Giovanardi, Nicola Larini (second classified in the 2001 ESTC) and Romana Bernardoni.

The Italian team, directed by Monica Sipsz, has unveiled yesterday the livery of its cars. On the usual Alfa-red background the sponsor brands are standing out, with Selenia and Bosch in particular evidence. The rear fenders are sporting the name "Gta" in big letters to emphasize the return of such a glorious acronym for Alfa Romeo’s history.

Between 1966 and 1973 the Giulia Gta models (Gta 1.6 litre, Gta Junior 1.3 litre and Gtam 2.0 litre) dominated the European Touring Car Championship claiming nine drivers titles and six Manufacturers titles. In the 2002 FIA ETCC the Gta Racing Team Nordauto cars will carry the same race numbers as last year: 1 for Giovanardi, 2 for Larini and 3 for Bernardoni.
